Oregon natives and Nike co-founders Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman set the stage for Nike’s obsession with Track & Field. Both were rooted in the sport at early ages and joined forces at the collegiate level with Bowerman as Knight’s coach. A legacy was born. The relationship began more than four decades ago, but the commitment lives on.
From providing athletes with superior performance product, to outfitting them off the track, Nike Sportswear is proud to fuse the legacy of running with superior innovations of today. The Fall 2012 Nike Track & Field Collection consists of four segments honoring the brand’s heritage while celebrating modern design advancements.
Nike Sportswear Track & Field Collection reflects the heritage of Nike Running, iconic rebel runner Steve Prefontaine and the unrelenting spirit of runners. Soft cotton mixed with vintage washes results in a range where every piece reflects a track record built on a heritage of heroes. Vintage Nike logos and the Nike International mark adorn the sweatshirts and t-shirts, while the Nike Cortez is brought back with premium leather and a deconstructed look.
Running crews inspired Nike International Crews Collection which pays tribute to running crews in London, New York, Tokyo, Berlin, Moscow, Rio de Janiero, Nairobi and Shanghai. As the pack leaders of running in cities across the world, eight federation countries are honored with iconic vintage t-shirts with retro graphics. A washed Nike Windrunner jacket, Nike Air Max 90 and Nike Safari tie into the International aesthetic. Both shoes incorporate recycled Nike Air bag units into the upper material.
To Bill Bowerman, track success demanded more than total commitment. Discipline was his mandate and his time in the 10th Mountain Division drove his athletes onto the pages of history. Bowerman’s sprit lives on in the Nike USATF Collection of military and track-inspired sportswear - a modern mix of vintage classics infused with a military aesthetic are manifested in an MA-1 jacket, classic crew sweatshirt and tees. The Nike Free Run Deconstruct, and Nike Cortez Deconstruct footwear pieces honor Bowerman’s drive to eliminate excess weight.
The final assortment honors the modern high-performance of running with bright pops of color. The Nike Fast Unleashed Collection includes dimensional prints, reflective bonding, and abrasion resistant finishes. Both the footwear and apparel pay homage to contemporary performance brought to life in the 2012 Games. The Nike Safari, Nike Air Max 97 with 360 air bag and Nike Fuse construction, and Nike Air Current 1990 incorporate the running innovations and color pops consistent throughout the collection.
