A man of many talents, Roger Federer puts his cross-training skills to the test wearing the new Nike Free Trainer 5.0 as he looks to backhand a pesky opponent in a new Nike film.

Built for multi-directional movement, the Nike Free Trainer 5.0 mimics the natural motion of the foot with its Chinese finger trap-inspired upper and Nike Free sole.

Nike Japan's "The Pledge" highlights individual performance in team culture

Nike Japan's new TV commercial “The Pledge,” sends the message that players of any sport can inspire team, coach, fan, rival and the world, showing that individual effort and success eventually lead to team success. Part of the “Make Them Talk” campaign, the ad features baseball icon Hideo Nomo and major leaguer Koji Uehara.

The ad depicts a young baseball player who makes a pledge for fair play at a baseball tournament, unconventionally emphasizing his own success at the game; Japanese pledges traditionally focus more on team spirit. “Ladies and gentlemen, we all stand before you, but... I ask you to watch me!” The surprised crowd at the stadium segues to those tuning in via radio and TV. Baseball legend Hideo Nomo, seen on a massage table, raises his head upon hearing the pledge from a TV. Pitcher Koji Uehara chuckles at the bold pledge while riding in a taxi.

Nike Japan believes that baseball, a sport that puts weight on team play, can further evolve and become more attractive by focusing on individuals and shedding light on the character of hard-working players — and how they differ from other players.

Nike's Korea National Baseball Team uniforms designed for speed, power, movement

On Jan. 15, Korea’s National Baseball Team officially unveiled its uniform for the 2013 World Baseball Classic that begins in March. Nike, the creator of the team’s uniforms since 1998, developed the innovative design for speed, power and movement. After earning gold medals in 2008 in Beijing and 2010 in Guangzhou, the Korean National Team hopes to achieve a Baseball Grand Slam by winning the upcoming classic.

In a change from previous uniforms, the top's design features a V-neck instead of a button-down, which can help reduce potential injuries caused by rough sliding. Twill fabric combined with nylon and spandex helps maximize each player’s full range of dynamic motion.

The new uniform also features a mesh fabric with antiperspirant and anti-odor technology as well as an ergonomic design to reduce chafing. With the use of innovative fabrics and minimization of seams, the uniform is 17 percent (top) and 51 percent (bottom) lighter than the previous uniform.

The uniforms emphasize the team’s heritage with the use of the same cursive "Korea" that was used in 2008 in Beijing, as well as the traditional white and blue colors.

The uniform includes a white top and bottom for home games and a blue top and white bottom for away games, as well as a Nike Pro base layer worn under the top that features a second-skin fit and moisture-wicking technology to keep players cool and dry.

Innovative technology for speed, power and full range of motion

The new pullover constructed V-neck design features chafe-free flatlock seams.
The button-less and seamless design on the front can help minimize injuries during head-first sliding or diving catches.
Motion Relief Gusset technology applied under each arm maximizes range of motion while batting or throwing.

Uniform design combines traditional and modern elements

For more than 20 years, Nike has paved the way in training with products designed for elite athletic performance. In January 2013, the Nike Free Trainer 3.0 will debut as the brand’s most advanced training shoe, fusing minimalism with stability and comfort.

The original Nike Air Trainer 1 shoe launched in 1987, introducing Nike Air technology for responsive heel cushioning and a forefoot strap for a lockdown fit. Debuting on Bo Jackson, a phenom athlete who combined strength, speed and off-the-charts athleticism, the Nike Air Trainer 1 was designed to the exact specifications of multi-sport athletes. Versatility was key.

Today, Nike Training has evolved into a sophisticated blend of advanced footwear and apparel technologies for athletes worldwide to compete at their peak. The focus: zero distractions, lightweight, breathable, and working in harmony with the natural motion of the body.

The Nike Free Trainer 3.0 blends innovative materials in the upper with the flexibility and benefits of Nike Free for increased natural motion. The mesh upper is designed with enforced polyurethane support, in the form of strand-like lines that increase and decrease with size over the shoe creating a pattern that is extremely supportive yet keeps the shoe flexible, lightweight, and breathable. The material protects against abrasion yet retains its pliability, providing a second skin-like feel as it moves with the natural biomechanics of the foot.

The midsole is another tangible example of Nike’s progression in training footwear. The Phylon midsole provides lightweight, responsive cushioning. This shoe is a 3.0 on the Nike Free rating scale, which means it offers great multidirectional flexibility and a low-to-the-ground fit and feel for a barefoot-like training experience.

Nike Japan hosts two-day baseball clinic for youth

In early December Nike Japan hosted a two-day Nike Baseball Camp designed to give young players coaching and inspiration from the pros as well as the opportunity to test the new Nike Zoom Vapor Elite SHA|DO J – Nike Baseball’s new cleat designed specifically for Japanese players.

The camp, held both in Tokyo and Osaka, brought together third-year junior high school students who will switch from rubber-ball to hardball baseball when they enter high school. Participants wore the Nike Zoom Vapor Elite SHA|DO J cleats as they practiced using hard balls in running, batting and field drills. Top athletes including Masumi Kuwata, Hisashi Iwakuma, Koji Uehara and Takashi Toritani were also on hand for coaching tips.

The Nike Zoom Vapor Elite SHA|DO J features a lightweight, ultrafine microfiber upper and aerodynamic design to help maximize speed on the field. Hyperfuse technology provides both breathability and support for the mid-foot and rear-foot. The low-profile Zoom Air midsole provides lightweight responsiveness. And the outsole studs are designed and placed to support Japanese players’ tendency to kick-start using their entire forefoot.

Camp participants were also able to try out the Nike Vapor Elite J SHA|DO baseball glove, which features Moist Clutch LPS technology to reduce sweat and increase grip. They also wore the Nike Pro Combat base layer, which wicks moisture and keeps the body warm and protected during cold weather play.

The Nike Zoom Vapor Elite SHA|DO J cleat will be available in stores in Japan beginning Dec. 22.

Nike launches Calvin Johnson's CJ81 Collection inspired by Megatron

In celebration of Thanksgiving weekend, Nike celebrates a long-standing weekend of football and an athlete that has truly transformed the game. The Nike CJ81 Collection Inspired by Megatron speaks to WR Calvin Johnson’s rare combination of physical talent and mental toughness. This menacing combination creates a prototypical specimen that undoubtedly deserves a moniker like Megatron. Much like the fictional character, Johnson relies on his uncanny ability to pull out an arsenal of physical strengths or “weapons” based on anything he encounters on the field.

16 years ago -- October 2, 1996 -- Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer. In 1997 he started the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which today serves people affected by cancer and empowers them to take action against the world's leading cause of death.

With the progression in outdoor training – plyometrics, circuit drills, speed training – comes an evolution in Nike Training footwear. The harsh weather beginning in October through April in many worldwide locations can be an obstacle for outdoor training, but the Nike Free Trainer 7.0 Shield is specifically designed to brave the elements. Nike Celebrates Jon Lester's 6-0 Record as a Cancer Survivor

6-0 is an inspiring record. Even more so when it comes to cancer.

To mark the milestone of his sixth year as a cancer survivor, pro pitcher Jon Lester of the Boston Red Sox and Nike are celebrating his success and aiming to inspire others in the Boston area.

Jon was diagnosed with Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma, a form of blood cancer, during his rookie season in September of 2006. After immediately beginning treatment he was pronounced cancer free a few months later. While he continues to excel back on the mound, he's also committed to making the time to fight against cancer.

On September 10, he shared his personal story and insights as a cancer survivor with more than 50 young athletes from the Boston area whose lives have also been impacted by the disease. The effort is part of his first annual LIVESTRONG baseball camp for kids ages 10-14 who love the game and also directly benefit from NVRQT (Never Quit), the foundation Jon started to help strike out cancer for kids by raising funds for pediatric cancer research.

Nike is also celebrating Jon's 6-0 record at NikeTown Boston, featuring imagery of him with the message: Nike Team LIVESTRONG supports the Lance Armstrong Foundation's goals of making cancer a global priority, reducing the stigma of the disease, and making access to care a reality for all survivors. Nike Training Legend Bo Jackson Bikes 'Bama

Bo Jackson, the multi-sport sensation and legend of Nike Training, is riding his bike on a 300-mile journey through the tornado ravaged communities of his home state Alabama. Nike is outfitting Bo with special colorways of the new Nike LunarTR1 shoe, commemorating his success across sports and contributions to his college and pro teams. Bo will wear these shoes during the journey while off his bike. Designed for multi-sport training, the Nike LunarTR1 shoe officially launches June 29 and features superior cushioning, durability and breathability.

Following Bo’s ride across the state, there will be an April 28th event at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheatre where Bo, victims’ families, ride sponsors, survivors and supporters will gather to celebrate those affected by the disaster. At the amphitheatre, there will be an on-site auction to raise additional funds for the Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund. The special Nike LunarTR1 shoes will be auctioned at this event.
