Sixteen year old Devante Clut, Matthew Bilic, aged 18, both from Sydney, Australia and Stephen Carmichael, 18 from Auckland, New Zealand were announced as the three finalists in Nike’s The Chance Pacific finals last week.

Held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, the three day event incorporated SPARQ, AIS and skill sessions and 11 v 11 matches in front of Nike scouts, coaches and athletes.

The competition was fierce as 38 of the Pacific’s best young and unsigned football talent did their best to impress for the chance to claim one of the final three places at the Global Finals in Barcelona next month.

The player’s representing the Pacific in Barcelona are:

-          Matthew Bilic, NSW, 18yo.  Tall, fast, skillful left back with an amazing left foot.

-          Devante Clut, NSW, 16yo.  Skillful, industrious midfielder who gets himself and puts passes in the right places.

-          Stephen Carmichael, Auckland, 18yo.  Smooth moving forward with great feet and a goal scoring ability.

Matthew Bilic made it through to the Pacific Finals in 2010, however didn’t make the Global final selection, evidently his hard work and determination have paid off this year.

All three finalists have the chance to follow in the footsteps of Tom Rogic, Australian football prodigy who was discovered in the first series of The Chance in 2010.  Rogic continues to shine as one of the nation’s most promising footballers and currently plays in the A-League.

The talent at the three day event in Canberra also attracted the attention of scouts from various A-League clubs, including Nike sponsored team the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Bilic, Clut and Carmichael make up the top 100 young footballers from 55 countries that will compete at the Global Finals in Barcelona from 19 – 26 August.
